THE OPPORTUNITY
The Problem
Since 2011, the Caribbean has experienced unprecedented sargassum influxes. Billions of dollars in tourism revenue lost. Coastal fisheries collapsed, Marine ecosystems suffocated, Governments overwhelmed by cleanup costs, running into hundreds of millions annually.
- 8+ million tones estimated annual Atlantic sargassum mass.
- $120+ annual cleanup costs across the affected Caribbean nations.
- 15-20 impacted countries seeking urgent, scalable solutions.
The Solution
What governments spend on disposal, SSL converts into revenue. Sargassum is a biomass feedstock with genuinely diverse commercial applications and supply is cast, growing and effectively free at source.
- Global seaweed market projected at $30B+ by 2032.
- Bio-stimulant and bio-fertilizer sectors growing at 12% CAGR.
- Carbon credit markets creating additional revenue streams.
Impact at Every Level
Social Impact
Creating dignified, skilled employment for coastal communities, particularly for fishermen and women whose livelihoods have been destroyed by sargassum influxes.
Environmental Impact
Reducing hydrogen sulfide emissions, restoring coastal biodiversity, and sequestering carbon through large scale biomass removal and valorisation.
Economic Impact
Building a genuinely new Caribbean export industry and diversifying economies long dependent on tourism and hydrocarbons, creating durable GDP contributions.

Why SSL, Why Now
First Mover Advantage
Despite over a decade of research publications and pilot experiments no organisation currently operates sargassum biorefinery infrastructure at commercial scale in the Caribbean. Responses remain ad-hoc, municipally funded and wasteful. SSL is not entering a competitive market, we are creating one. Our strategy is to establish SSL as the regional reference point for sargassum industry development, the entity that trains workforce, sets the standards, runs the first commercial demonstration and holds relationships with the government, academia and international buyers. By the time competitors emerge, SSL will have the track record, the data and the brand.
Regulatory Tailwinds
Caribbean governments are actively seeking private sector partners to manage sargassum crises. SSL’S model aligns commercial returns with public sector relief, a rare convergence. The World Bank estimates Caribbean nations spend up to US$120 million per year on sargassum remediation, with negligible return on that expenditure.
Climate Capital Readiness
Global impact investors and climate funds are actively deploying capital into blue economy and nature based solutions. Sargassum represents an untapped, recurring biomass resource arriving at the Caribbean coastlines at no extraction cost. SSL intends to be the defining platform through which this resource is captured, processed and monetised, creating jobs, government revenue and export across the region.
Proven Team & Technology
SSL combines deep Caribbean operational expertise with internationally validated biorefinery science, reducing execution risk while accelerating the path to commercial scale. SSL in not a single project venture. We are building the institutional infrastructure of a new industry, the standards, the knowledge base, the logistics framework and the market linkage that will allow sargassum enterprises to scale across the Caribbean and beyond.
Join Us: Build the Industry Together
SSL is at the moment of launch, with the strategy of defined, the partnerships in place and the pipeline of clients and projects identified, What we are building now is the founding consortium of partners and investors who will shape the Caribbean sargassum industry for the next decade.
Partner with SSL
We are actively seeking strategic partners across the value chain: coastal hospitality groups, port authorities, agricultural input distributors, marine logistics operators and technology providers. Partnership agreements are structured to provide market access, co-branding and prefered pricing on SSL services. Partner tier pricing from US$10,000/year (Associate) to US$75,000/year (Strategic Alliance).
Invest in the Pilot
SSL is raising US$10M in Phase 1 capital to find the Trinidad & Tobago pilot project. We are offering a combination of equity participation and convertible instruments to founding investors, with governance rights proportionate to commitment level. Minimum investment: US$250,000. Lead investor anchor: US$3M+. A formal investment memorandum and data room are available to qualified investors.
Government & DFI Engagement
For Caribbean governments and development finance institutions, SSL offers a ready-made implementation partner for blue economy and climate adaptation mandates. We are seeking grant co-funding of US$500k-US$2M from Caribbean Development Bank, IDB Lab, Green Climate Fund and bilateral donors for the pilot’s non-revenue climate co-benefit components. Expressions of interest welcomed from ministries of environment, agriculture and trade.
